Gift Aid
Gift Aid
At Merciful Hearts, we strive to make the most of every donation to support our charitable work. Gift Aid is a valuable tax incentive that allows us to increase the value of your donations at no extra cost to you.
What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a UK government scheme that enables charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers. For every £1 you donate, we can claim an additional 25p, effectively boosting your donation by 25%.
Eligibility for Gift Aid
To qualify for Gift Aid, both you and your donation must meet the following criteria:
- You must be a UK taxpayer.
- You must complete a Gift Aid declaration form.
- Your donation must be £2 or more.
- You must not have already used your Gift Aid allowance for the tax year on other donations.
If you pay higher or additional rate tax, you may be able to claim the difference between the higher rate of tax and the basic rate on your donation.
How Gift Aid Works
When you donate to Merciful Hearts and complete a Gift Aid declaration, we can reclaim 25% of your donation from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). This means your donation goes further in supporting our mission.
For example, if you donate £100, we can claim an additional £25, making your total donation £125.
